JILL JOHNSON - ”FLIRTING WITH DISASTER”
A biography

”There’s a country lover in us all”, says Jill Johnson. It probably rings true, particularly coming from someone who succeeds in conveying a music style the way she does.

Now Jill is back with a new sound and a new album, ”Flirting With Disaster”, and it’s a darker, somewhat more naked with a little more of a ’rock ’n’ roll’ and ’roots’ in feel.

In common with earlier work, Jill has collaborated with her close friend and colleague, Liz Rose – with the help of Liz Carver, Pam Rose and Lora Mckenna – with Jill being involved in the writing on all of the songs!

Liz Rose is probably more known in Sweden for writing most of Taylor Swift’s hits including, ”White Horse”, ”Teardrops on My Guitar” and ”You Belong with Me” and for her work along with artists like, Trisha Yearwood, Bonnie Raitt, Tim McGraw and Dean Miller, among others.

The friendship and working relationship between Jill and Liz has developed over many years and the title for this album was originally intended to be, ”Me & Miss Rose”!

But as the artistic process began to gather momentum in Liz Rose’s inspirational hometown of Dallas, Jill realised that the quota of songs dealing with guilt, sorrow and pain had been filled. The music had come out of happiness and fun-filled nights in Dallas which was clearly mirrored in the songs. In fact the whole record radiates a lust for life! The more rock orientated material and light and airy sound was there to stay and so, ’flirting with disaster’ became a fact and the new title.

Jill Johnson’s enormous drive and energy has always shone through all of her projects and is the corner stone of her musical career. With this new album, Jill is more confident, even cocksure of herself than ever and it’s obvious that she’s come a long way as a songwriter and really feels at home with herself. This album is the first in ten years to be wholly recorded in Sweden with Malmö producer, Amir Aly contributing to Jill’s new sound. It’s a strong, tough goal driven record – just like Jill who has had a number of sold out tours over the years; which start off with the, now famous, hand shakes with members of the audience in the foyer before the shows. There have been monster hits like, ”Crazy in Love”, duets with amongst others, Nina Persson, Lisa Miskovsky, Kim Carnes, Björn Skifs, Ronan Keating and Chip Taylor.

She’s been acclaimed as the presenter for the Swedish radio programme, ‘Summer’, has been presenting the huge Swedish TV show “Melodifestivalen” and has a whole wall filled with gold records.

This coming spring’s Sweden-wide tour won’t however, be any kind of flirt with disaster… as it’s been a long time since Jill made herself at home on the stage and her fans, the dedicated record buyer, found her a long time ago.

There really is a Jill-lover in us all…
