JILL considers herself a true small town girl from the small town of Ängelholm in the south western part of Swedish, but the surroundings and the media compare her with the biggest stars in the musicbusiness.
Already at the age of 4 she had decided that she wanted to become an artist. She was highly encouraged by her local choir leader.
She now lives in a hunting lodge in the Western Gothlandic woods of Sweden, but also has a home in Stockholm. When the weather permits, she enjoys chilling out in the woods on her motorbike.
As a 12-year old, she started off as vocalist in a C & W-band, touring in Norway and Denmark. She signed eventually with EMI-Medley in Denmark and recorded an album, produced by top producer Paul Bruun. The title-track, "Sugar Tree", became a hit in Denmark. In 1996, she had her first Swedish hit with "Comes Time, Comes Spring".
In 1998, she performed "Kärleken Är (Love Is)" in the Eurovision Song Contest, winning the local Swedish finals and going on to represent Sweden in the final.This established Jill as one of the prime swedish artists. The success was followed by the hit album "När hela världen ser på" and a successful tour.
In the summer of 1999, JILL went to L.A. to look for material for her second album. At home, she worked with Andreas Carlsson (ASCAP Writer of the Year 2000), who is known for several massive hits, the biggest , so far, being Celine Dion´s "That's the Way It Is". She also tried out a few local new-comers and the album "Daughter of Eve" was released in early 2000. It was very well received and Jill was compared with some of the world's best artists.
In 2000, she received a platinum-record in Denmark for the sound-track "Promise To Love" from the Danish block-buster, "Eneste Ene ("The Only One"). Later that year, Jill started to collaborate with other songwriters such as Jenny Orenstein, Charlie Stefl, Mary Green [Biem Writer of the Year 2001]. This resulted in her receiving a Publishing contract in Nashville Tennessee. Consequently, in 2001 Jill's album entitled "Good Girl" came to be with the help of producer Scott Bagget and some of Nashville's top musicians! This album secured Jill's artistic sound and style and once again she was extremely well received by the press in their reviews where she was described as an artist of International calibre. As a result Jill's career was elevated to a new and even more exciting level than ever before.
The Swedish finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 were, to say the least an easy match for veteran Jill! She not only qualified at fourth place (out of 32 entries) but also her song "Crazy in Love" became a huge hit and received a great deal of radio play and followed by a very successful tour.
Jill's collective "Discography" CD was released in late March 2003. It contains the 20 most popular songs since her debut in 1995. This Cd went straight into the sales charts for best selling CDs in Swseden. The single "Crazy in Love" stayed at No 1 in the Swedish Top Charts (Svensktoppen) 12 weeks consecutively and No 2 for 15 weeks. "Discography" sold Gold in Sweden and Jill also got a Grammy for this album.
The album "Roots and wings" was released in November 2003, recorded and produced by Amir Aly in Sweden and by Scott Bagget in Nashville, USA. The album sold gold in less than two weeks and platinum a few months later.
The album "Being who you are" was released in Sweden in late March 2005 and sold gold in only a few weeks. Jill was the host of this years Swedish Finals of the Eurovison Song Contest in Stockholm.
In late 2005 Jill released her Christmas album "The Christmas in you" It went gold within just a week! She was also be the official Christmas artist for Swedish national TV4 and also host her own show in "Hasses lada" in Båstad.
In early 2006 she played herself in Colin Nutleys movie "Heartbreak Hotel" and at the same time the EP with the same name was released.
Jill Johnson gives us the real, powerful strength that only a true artist and singer can bring. On her album "The Woman I´ve become" Jill proves to be a true natural pro not only as it comes to being an artist but also a songwriter. The album is produced by Nashville top-producer Nathan Chapman and his handpicked musicians forms a fantastic sound and gives the songs another dimension. Featured on the album are some of the most well known voices and musicians such as Buddy Miller, Rebeca Lynn Howards, Lauren Lucas, Stephanie Chapman, Pat Mc Laughlin. Jills new album "Music Row" was released 28 november 2007. The natural name of the album was "Music Row". That is the name of the center of country music industry in Nashville. This is the first time that Jill fills a whole album with her own favorites. The album includes three duets, as Jill really enjoys musical meetings.
The album sold gold in less than a week and platina shortly after.
Jills Christmas show was a big success at the new arena Bökeberg in Svedala in the end of 2007.
In the spring of 2008 Jill is doing a much longed for consert hall tour in Sweden. The premiere is at "Cirkus" in Stockholm.
Jill is today one of the most successful artists in Sweden and all the hardwork to reach the top has finally paid off!
